Andrew Lau Wai-Keung is a Hong Kong film director, , cinematographer, presenter and actor.

He most famously worked with Ringo Lam on '''' and Wong Kar-wai on ''Chungking Express'' as cinematographer and has directed Wong Jing-produced sex exploitation movie ''Naked Killer 2'' and the immensely popular themed ''Young and Dangerous'' , including its five sequels and one prequel. Subsequently, Lau collaborated with ''Young and Dangerous'' star Ekin Cheng on the comic-based ''The Storm Riders'' , which was the highest grossing Hong Kong movie at the time and famed for its use of special effects. Lau went on to make several less successful titles in the late 1990s and early 2000s such as '''' . In 2002, he established Basic Pictures. The first three films from the company was the hit ''Infernal Affairs'' trilogy. He reteamed with Alan Mak to co-direct '''' , singer Jay Chou's acting debut and the 2006 film ''Confession of Pain''. His next effort is the 2007 film '''', which marks his first English language film.

Yu Lik-wai is a Hong Kong , film director, and occasional film producer. Born in Hong Kong, Yu was educated at Belgium's INSAS where he graduated with a degree in cinematography in 1994. Yu has become a mainstay in both the cinemas of and .

Yu has served as director of photography for nearly all of Chinese director Jia Zhangke's films, and along with Jia, the two men founded their own independent film production company, Xstream Pictures.

Herman Yau

Herman Yau Lai-To , born 1961 in Hong Kong is a film director, actor, cinematographer, scriptwriter and film producer.

Background

A Chiuchow by origin, Yau studied film at The Department of Communications, from 1981 to 1984 where he spent much of his early days hanging out with music lovers and making independent films.

Upon leaving school, Yau devoted most of his time working in the , and writing for a number of magazine and newspapers as a columnist and freelance writer. Yau has also participated in a number of productions including music videos for Chang Kuan, Jie Cheng-jiang, , Jacky Cheung, Andy Hui and the American jazz player Eric Marienthal. He has also produced TV commercials and promos for the Hong Kong Film Awards.

From 1997 to 1998, Yau participated in the filming of a TV series produced by Radio Television Hong Kong. In 2003, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the , the ICAC produced a television drama series and invited Yau to direct one of the episodes.

Yau is also one of the founders of the cultural newspaper, ''Chinese Youth Weekly'', and two movie magazines . Yau has also published two books of his own.

Career

Yau has produced and directed over 70 movies, which include ''The Untold Story'', ''The Untold Story III'', ''War of the Underworld'', ''Walk In'', ''Ebola Syndrome'', ''Master Q 2001'', ''From the Queen to the Chief Executive'' and the ''Troublesome Night'' series.

Yau's films have also been shown in the Hong Kong International Film Festival and film festivals in Europe and the United States. ''The Untold Story'' and ''Ebola Syndrome'' were praised as "cult classics". ''From the Queen to the Chief Executive'' was awarded the Golden Torch Award by the International Catholic Organization for Cinema and Audiovisual.

In 1997, together with a group of people coming from different fields who share the same belief in writing and the power of words, Herman founded Step Forward which specializes in publication.

In 1999, Hong Kong Polytechnic University invited Herman as their first "Artist-in-Residence". For seven years, from 1996 to 2002, the Hong Kong Art Centre invited Herman to be a member of the jury for the "Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards".

In 2002 and 2003, Herman was invited as a consultant for the "Master Degree Programme in Multimedia and Entertainment Technology" and Art Consultant for the Hong Kong Art Development Board.

Career

As a cinematographer, Wong was inspired by his father, who was, himself, a renowned cinematographer of the 1950's and the 1960's in Hong Kong. His father trained him to be a photographer since his youth.

Wong started his career in 1976 and participated in more than 110 movies as a cinematographer, some of which were directed by the likes of John Woo, Ringo Lam, Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan, Yuen Woo-Ping, Ann Hui, Clara Law, Peter Chan, and Tsui Hark.
